New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola missed practice Thursday, according to Boston Herald beat writer Jeff Howe. Amendola left Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints with a concussion.
Amendola, an offseason free-agent acquisition of the Patriots to replace the departed Wes Welker, has played in only three games this season and was limited or missed snaps with injury in all three games. For the season, he has 16 receptions for 159 yards.
Fantasy impact: It's hard to imagine there's any way Amendola plays Sunday against the New York Jets. His concussion Sunday was scary, knocking him out cold, and for a player with a history of concussions, among other injuries, it seems that caution will rule the day.
Even if Amendola is active, fantasy owners should proceed as though he isn't. Since his productive Week 1 game (10 catches for 104 yards), Amendola has six total catches. His injury woes, which have dogged his career, have continued into 2013.
Amendola can't be counted on until he gets a complete bill of health. In the interim, Julian Edelman, Kenbrell Thompkins, and Aaron Dobson don't see their values rise substantially; all three are WR3 options. In deeper leagues, Austin Collie might have some worth - after Edelman left Sunday's game, Collie filled his role, catching a couple passes late in the game as the Patriots drove for the win.
