San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd (neck) will miss the rest of the regular season after being placed on the team's injured reserve list, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The two games this season, Floyd post six catches for 149 receiving yards.
Fantasy impact: Ever since Pro Bowler Vincent Jackson parted ways with the Chargers, it was Floyd that was to be groomed as the team's number one receiver. Floyd was always viewed as a tall, athletically gifted player who could really break a game open down the field. He was supposed to be a great complement to tight end Antonio Gates in the passing game.
Over the last nine seasons with the Chargers, all with San Diego, Floyd never managed to corral more than 56 catches this season and never got over the 1,000-yard mark. His career with the Chargers is likely over as the guaranteed portion of this contract will expire at the end of the season, making it easy for the team to cut him without repercussions.
In light of Floyd being sidelined for the rest of the year, the team has signed Lavelle Hawkins. Fantasy owners should look to Antonio Gates and Eddie Royal as receivers that will benefit the most from Floyd's injury.
