The Week 8 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings is looking like a one-sided affair. Of course, the Vikings do have their usual must-start in Adrian Peterson. We've got all the fantasy projections for you courtesy of numberFire.
Green Bay Packers
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a top five fantasy gunslinger year after year, and 2013 is no exception. Even without tight end Jermichael Finley (spine) and wide receivers Randall Cobb (broken leg) and James Jones (knee), Rogers will be poised to put up a lot of points against an inexperienced Vikings secondary. He's certain to rely on his top receiver, Jordy Nelson, and Jarrett Boykin to make that happen. Last week, against a top-notch Cleveland Browns secondary, Nelson caught five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. He now has a TD in back-to-back games for the second time this season.
The Packers will continue to mix things up with rookie running back Eddie Lacy. The rookie has proven he can carry the load as the go-to guy in the backfield. Lacy has managed to average 100 yards rushing over his last three games, which is impressive considering he did it against the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.
The Vikings have dealt with frustrating uncertainty at the quarterback position in 2013. The team looked ready to make the switch to free agent QB Josh Freeman for the foreseeable future, but he suffered a concussion against the Giants and is out indefinitely. This means Christian Ponder is back to start against the Packers in Week 8. Ponder has struggled this year, throwing five interceptions and only two touchdowns in just three games.
With such unpredictable quarterback play, fantasy owners can bet that running back Adrian Peterson will be counted on heavily as Minnesota tries to keep pace with the high octane Packers attack. Peterson is not having the record-breaking season he had hoped for, and fantasy owners who drafted him thinking they found a back with untouchable fantasy production are finding they were mistaken. Peterson ran for a season-low 28 yards on 13 carries against the Giants in Week 7. Fantasy owners can only hope that he has a bounce back game against the Packers.
