Stevan Ridley injury update: Patriots RB out for fantasy owners this week

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Patriots running back was not able to fully participate in practice throughout the week and has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Bengals. We discuss the fantasy implications.

New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley (thigh/knee) did not practice with the team towards the end of the weekend and has been ruled out for Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals. So far this season, Ridley has 174 yards rushing on 47 carries and has not found the end zone.

Fantasy impact: The news that Ridley was even listed on the team's injury report came as a surprise to many and it's rare that the Patriots say anything about injuries in the first place. With Shane Vereen on injured reserve, Brandon Bolden and LeGarrette Blount will carry the load in the Patriots backfield for now.

It looks like the Patriots have mainly used Bolden in passing situations, so his fantasy value would mainly come in leagues that reward receptions. On the other hand, Blount has been able to step in nicely on the ground for the Pats, posting an outstanding 7.1 yards per carry in a Week 4 win against the Atlanta Falcons.

It is not yet known how long Ridley will be out for New England, so for now fantasy owners will have to adjust on the fly and look to other players on their roster to fill in the gaps, if they don't own Bolden or Blount that is.
