Danny Amendola will have limited reps versus Bengals, is a risky fantasy start

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Patriots will insert their top receiving option back into the lineup for the first time since Week 1. We break down the fantasy implications.

Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is expected to play on Sunday, however, his snaps will be limited according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports

Amendola has not suited up for the Patriots since sustaining a groin injury in Week 1 versus the Bills, in which he left the game but later returned. Amendola has since practiced with the team, albeit at a limited basis over the past few weeks. Pain tolerance is certainly a factor in the decision for the Patriots to get their top wideout back onto the field, and with that in mind, he could see a more than a few snaps from the sidelines.

Fantasy Spin: It's an encouraging sign whenever Amendola can get onto the field at any capacity, but with Julian Edelman adequately fulfilling his role in the meantime, the Patriots will not take any unnecessary risks. But even with his limitations accounted for, Amendola should be started in all leagues, though he would be more comfortably suited in a WR3 role or flex play versus the Bengals, who should once again be without top cornerback Leon Hall.

Kenbrell Thompkins and Edelman could very well see their usual target totals diminish, but they still warrant starting consideration with four teams on byes. Tom Brady also has a good under-the-radar matchup ahead of him versus a banged-up Bengals secondary and with another receiving option in the mix.

Editor's Note: Amedola is officially listed as active for the Patriots.
