Darren Sproles is '50-50' for Thursday night, presents risk for fantasy owners

The New Orleans Saints could be without a key cog in their offense on Thursday night versus the Atlanta Falcons. We break down the fantasy implications.

New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles has a "50-50" chance to play Thursday night, according to ESPN.com's Mike Triplett.

Sproles has been battling knee and ankle injuries in recent weeks, and played through both versus the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11. With just three days' rest between games and zero days of practice leading up to Thursday's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, a "50-50" proclamation may be generous.

Fantasy Spin: Should Sproles not suit up on Thursday night, it will take an integral part of the receiving game away from the Saints. However, versus a 2-8 Atlanta Falcons team that has allowed the seventh-most yards and fourth-most points per game, it would be understandable for the Saints to want to rest their speedy receiving back.

In the event Sproles does suit up, a snap count is not out of the question, which would pave the way for another big game from Pierre Thomas and perhaps a few extra targets for receivers like Kenny Stills and Marques Colston. While a slight boost is in order for other Saints skill players as a whole, the main bullet point is that Sproles' owners need to explore different options for this week. He remains a middling flex play at best.
