Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan had a disastrous game last Sunday, throwing four interceptions to go with only one touchdown in the team's 27-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Ryan will look to get back on the right track Sunday as the team faces the tough defense of the Carolina Panthers.
Ryan's four interceptions Sunday were more than the three he had all season entering the Week 8 matchup, and his lone touchdown represented his only single-score game of the year. It would be easy to blame the performance on the absences of star wide receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White, but Ryan was without those two players in Week 7 as well, and he put up some of his best numbers of the season in that game, and both defenses -- Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- are good enough that it shouldn't have made such a big difference in Ryan's numbers.
Fantasy impact: Ryan hasn't had his full team healthy all season as White has battled injury, and, with Jones lost for the year, he won't. That said, this is still a team with weapons, even with Jones and White out. Tight end Tony Gonzalez is still a star, and wide receiver Harry Douglas has emerged as one the last two weeks as well. Running backs Steven Jackson -- also back from injury -- and Jacquizz Rodgers are productive pieces as well.
The Panthers are a good defense, though one that is better against the run than the pass. Ryan is unlikely to have another game as bad as he did a week ago, though he's also probably not going to manage the 148.4 passer rating of Week 7, either. The reality will likely lie somewhere in the middle, and he'll be a fine low-end QB1 option this week.
