Tony Gonzalez injury: Falcons TE questionable, iffy fantasy value

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is questionable for Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Tight end Tony Gonzalez is officially listed as questionable on the injury report for the Falcons' game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Gonzalez is dealing with a toe injury that had him limited in practice this week. That said, Gonzalez was a participant on all three days, for what it's worth.

Gonzalez played through the injury in Week 12, catching four passes for 43 yards against the New Orleans Saints. The Falcons have lost their last five games and they're not exactly competing for the playoffs. There's no reason for Gonzalez to rush back into the lineup.

On the season, Gonzalez has 58 catches for 611 yards and four touchdowns. Gonzalez is second on the team behind Harry Douglas, who has 833 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Fantasy Impact: Gonzalez has been one of the most prolific and effective fantasy tight ends in recent years. This season, he's slowed down considerably, right in sync with the Falcons themselves. He is still a solid fantasy option in deep leagues, but at this point, fantasy owners may want to look elsewhere considering his questionable status. A backup option should be prepared.
