Fantasy football sit/start advice, Week 13: Frank Gore

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

We take a look at whether or not you should start running back Frank Gore in Week 13.

San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore has been solid this season. He's well on his way to another season of at least 1,000 yards -- it would be his seventh if he makes it through without injury. Gore has carried 188 times for 779 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.

That's a per-carry average of 4.1 yards, which is solid but low for a player of Gore's caliber. Gore has struggled in recent weeks due to teams stacking the box with eight, nine or even 10 defenders. Teams have not feared the San Francisco passing game. Then again, the 49ers threw the ball well in Week 12, and they're getting much healthier at the wide receiver position. Michael Crabtree is returning, Mario Manningham is back and Quinton Patton is getting there as well.

Fantasy Sit/Start: While the trends show Gore struggling over the past two weeks, the 49ers will have an elite receiver returning to the lineup in Crabtree, and that will account for one less man in the box for certain. Gore also scorched the St. Louis Rams for 153 yards off of 20 carries back in September. Gore is a must-start most weeks, and this week is no exception.
