Cam Newton explodes against the Bucs, likely carried fantasy owners Sunday

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Cam Newton had one of the better days at the quarterback position on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton had a massive day against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with 263 passing yards, two passing scores and two picks on 18-of-29 pass attempts. He added one rushing TD and 68 yards on the ground.

It was all on display Sunday. Newton broke a 56-yard run down the sideline in the first half and almost scored an 80-yard TD had he not barely lost his balance after being tripped up. He spread the ball around to six different receivers and each had at least two grabs.

After a couple weeks of being quiet, Cam has picked it up in a big way. He has eight total touchdowns in his last three games. He had himself a big December last year with 10 total TDs and 1,116 passing yards -- both his highest totals of any month last season.

Fantasy impact: This is why fantasy owners spent a high pick on him. He gets goal-line carries and has the ability to get the ball down the field. He could be fantasy's top quarterback the rest of the way with the Panthers looking to compete for the top seed in the NFC playoffs.
