Jay Cutler practicing at top speed, still yet to be anointed fantasy starter

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears quarterback has been cleared to take part in practice at full speed. We break down the fantasy implications.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (ankle) returned to practice on Wednesday, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell. Cutler hasn't played since suffering the injury against the Detroit Lions back in Week 10.

Fantasy Impact: There are a lot of factors to consider in the Bears' quarterback situation right now. Firstly, Josh McCown went 3-2 filling in for Cutler over the last few games. Secondly, McCown absolutely scorched the Dallas Cowboys in Week 14, throwing for 348 yards and a career-high four touchdown passes.

Aside from that, reports have been swirling that the Bears won't re-sign Cutler at the end of the season. One has to wonder if all of this is weighing on his mind.

Coach Marc Trestman hasn't named the starting pivot for this week yet, but odds are he will likely do so after practice on Thursday. Despite everything McCown has done to prove himself worthy of more action, many still expect Cutler to get the nod this week against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy owners are advised to wait and see for now.
