Wide receiver Torrey Smith is going to have to put together a huge bounce-back effort this week against the Lions. He was a popular starter in fantasy leagues last week because the Ravens lined up against the Minnesota Vikings, one of the worst teams in the NFL at defending the pass. He didn't produce, plain and simple. One reception isn't going to win anybody anything no matter what the fantasy format.
Smith will undoubtedly do better this week, but it will be up to quarterback Joe Flacco to find him. Despite not connecting with Smith last week, Flacco did string together 245 passing yards and three touchdowns. He's generally not a big-time fantasy player especially this year, but if the Lions score a lot, Flacco could surprise this week.
Matthew Stafford was held to just 151 passing yards against the Philadelphia Eagles last week. Fantasy owners shouldn't hold it against him though. The game was filled with snow and definitely not ideal for big-time fantasy performances, at least not for a quarterback. It was hard to grip the ball, throw it and spot receivers down the field. Stafford will no doubt be better this week given that the game is indoors. He should be able to provide more than enough fantasy value for his owners against the Ravens.
Stafford's performance will affect the production of wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Megatron had his streak of three straight 100-yard games snapped last week. Again, the lack of production was mostly thanks to the snow. Ravens cornerback Matt Elam has come out and called Johnson old, so you know the Lions' superstar is licking his chops this week. That bodes well for Johnson's fantasy owners.
