Adrian Peterson falls short for many fantasy championships

Trevor Ruszkowksi-USA TODAY Spor

Adrian Peterson finished Week 16 with just 45 rushing yards. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

It wasn't exactly an explosive return for Adrian Peterson owners. Peterson finished Sunday's game with 11 carries for 45 yards. He added one catch for 2 yards to his stat line. Peterson may not have been 100 percent on Sunday, but it wasn't obvious. The Cincinnati Bengals were successful in containing Peterson all afternoon. With the Bengals leading the Vikings all afternoon, the running game wasn't a huge part of the offense. To make matters worse, Peterson was targeted just once in the passing game. Once the game was well out of reach in the fourth quarter, the Vikings opted to rest Peterson.

Fantasy impact: Fantasy owners weren't even sure they'd have Adrian Peterson available until he was announced as active on Sunday. It was expected to be a tough matchup for anyone in the Vikings backfield. Cincinnati has limited fantasy running backs for most of the season, but many owners understandably put their trust in the stud running back despite the matchup. Peterson may have helped a lot of owners get to their fantasy championships, but he certainly didn't help them on Sunday. He'll face a tough Detroit Lions run defense in Week 17.
