Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown has performed admirably this year in place of the injured Jay Cutler. However, his time under center could be coming to an end with Cutler's return on the horizon.
Luckily for McCown's fantasy owners, the inevitable has been delayed another week after head coach Marc Trestman officially ruled Cutler out of action on Monday night. Cutler returned to practice this week for the first time since Week 10, but will be sidelined for at least another game, allowing McCown to resume his post under center.
Fantasy Spin: This is the best-case scenario for McCown's owners, who not only get clarity on their quarterback's status before the late start, but also get to play their quarterback under the best possible circumstances.
The Dallas Cowboys have provided the most favorable matchup for quarterbacks this season, allowing more fantasy points to the position than any other team. Five quarterbacks have thrown for 383 yards or more in a game versus the Cowboys this season, and the Cowboys have also allowed quarterbacks to throw four touchdowns in a game on three separate occasions. In other words, it's not just Drew Brees who has burned them.
In the first week of the fantasy football playoffs, McCown presents a high-floor, high-ceiling option and can be comfortably placed as a QB1 in Week 14. Leagues of all formats should not be shocked if McCown finishes in the top five.
