Daniel Thomas to get goal line carries, worth a fantasy draft pick?

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Lamar Miller will be the Dolphins starting running back, but Daniel Thomas is expected to take the field on third downs and at the goal line. We break down the fantasy implications.

Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas is expected to be the main back on goal line and third down situations, per the Palm Beach Post. Lamar Miller should win the starting job, but Thomas may have the edge on passing downs due to his pass protection skills. He's also been better at ball security, an issue that has plagued him in the past.

Thomas rushed for 325 yards and four touchdowns last season while missing time with a concussion.

Fantasy impact: This cements Thomas' status as Miller's handcuff, but he also has a chance to vulture goal line touchdowns from Miller. The coaches still love Thomas' upside despite his struggles last season and want to give him every chance to earn more carries.

This would make for a nightmare fantasy scenario if Miller struggles out of the gate. Thomas may be worth a late-round pick, but pay attention to how the two backs split the load in next week's dress rehearsal game.
