Cam Newton to see 10-15 snaps in preseason opener; fantasy value remains high

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will see 10-15 snaps in Friday's preseason opener. We break down the fantasy implications.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and the rest of the first-team offense are expected to get 10 to 15 snaps in Friday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. The workload is expected as teams usually pull starters quickly to avoid injury.

Newton threw for 3,869 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2012. He has also rushed for more than 700 yards in both seasons as a starter for the Panthers. Newton has also scored 22 rushing touchdowns in two seasons.

Fantasy Impact: Newton may not fall into the category of elite NFL quarterback but he's been a fantasy monster in his first two seasons. His rushing prowess makes him a special option at quarterback and his passing has been solid in his first two seasons.

Newton has faced criticism because of his sulking on the sidelines and because his team hasn't been very good. Fantasy owners are probably a bit more positive because of his point totals every week. Newton is a No. 1 quarterback in all formats and will likely go in the first three rounds on Draft Day.
