Tavon Austin set to make debut for Rams, potential fantasy owners

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis Rams rookie Tavon Austin makes his preseason debut on Thursday. We break down the fantasy implications.

St. Louis Rams rookie Tavon Austin will make his NFL preseason debut on Thursday and the biggest question seems to be how many positions he'll play. Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says Austin appears to be worth the trade the Rams made to select the rookie from West Virginia.

Thomas says the team will certainly use Austin at wide receiver against the Cleveland Browns and is curious to see if he also gets time as a kick returner and in the backfield.

Fantasy Impact: Austin will make explosive plays this season and will likely be one of the top rookies in fantasy football. Owners will be anxious to get a look at him but should be careful about reaching to take him on Draft Day.

Austin is, for now, a mid-to-low No. 3 fantasy wide receiver and should not be counted on for more than that at this point.
