Running back Maurice Jones-Drew and wide receiver Cecil Shorts are among the nine players the Jacksonville Jaguars will hold out of Friday's preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins. A foot injury cost Jones-Drew much of last season and the Jaguars see no reason to risk an injury to a veteran this early in the preseason.
Shorts, meanwhile, has been bothered by a calf injury and was never expected to play on Friday. Shorts is coming off a strong season in which he had 55 catches for 979 yards and seven touchdowns.
Fantasy Impact: Jones-Drew and Shorts are two of the more interesting players for owners to deal with heading into Draft Day. Jones-Drew appears to be healthy and could be a good value if he's close to 100 percent heading into Week 1 of the season.
Shorts is clearly Jacksonville's best wide receiver and could be in for a better season than he had in 2012. Both players could slide to owners in fantasy drafts.
