Michael Vick to start preseason opener for Eagles; little change to fantasy value

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Vick will start the preseason opener for the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of Nick Foles. We break down the fantasy implications.

Michael Vick is going to start Friday's preseason game against the New England Patriots but coach Chip Kelly says Nick Foles will split first-team reps with Vick. Kelly added that Foles will start Philadelphia's second preseason game.

The reports out of training camp suggest that Vick has a sizable lead over Foles in the competition to be the Week 1 starter. Vick was a turnover machine last season but appears to be getting a fresh start in Kelly's offense.

Fantasy Impact: Fantasy owners will almost certainly stay away from Vick and Foles this season. In 2012, Vick thew 10 interceptions and fumbled 11 times, which are stats that don't sit well with fantasy owners.

Vick is, at best, a No. 2 fantasy option at quarterback and a lot will depend on how well he plays in Philadelphia's new up-tempo offense. He should not be given much consideration on Draft Day unless he's a late-round flyer.
