Darrius Heyward-Bey returns to practice earlier than expected; should have solid fantasy value

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Darrius Heyward-Bey is back in practice for the Indianapolis Colts. We break down the fantasy implications.

Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is practicing in team drills on Thursday, according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. Heyward-Bey returned to the practice field on Wednesday, but only participated in solo drills before heading back to the locker room.

Heyward-Bey is recovering from a sprained left knee and got the good news that an MRI was negative when he was labeled day-to-day by head coach Chuck Pagano on Tuesday. According to Chappell, Heyward-Bey returned to the locker room at one point on Thursday but came out again and seems to be fine.

Fantasy Impact: Heyward-Bey is expected to get a lot of looks, despite being a late signing this offseason. Still, he was always going to be the No. 2 option for Andrew Luck behind Reggie Wayne. But in an offense that's still got issues at the running back position, being the second receiving option isn't a bad place to be.

Potential knee injuries could force him to slide in fantasy drafts, but if he continues to practice and make it through, he remains a solid option given his place on the team and his skill set.
