Buffalo Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel is a "good bet" to start the team's preseason opener on Sunday, according to Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 Sports Radio. Manuel has been taking the lion's share of the first-team reps at practice due to Kevin Kolb being injured. He's taken "over 100 more reps in practice" than Kolb to this point.
Manuel, a rookie, was hasn't been all-that impressive in camp thus far, but getting the start in the preseason game should give folks a good idea of where the competition really is. Kolb is dealing with a bum knee and also dealt with a personal issue, which caused him to miss practice on Monday.
Fantasy Impact: No quarterback on the Bills is going to be a hot commodity in fantasy this year, but teams who don't get one of the top tier guys could cast a look toward one of the more unknown players, and that would certainly include Manuel. He'll get picked up somewhere, and seeing how he plays in the preseason is the first step in assessing whether or not he's a potential break-out star in fantasy.
Kolb put up good numbers with the Cardinals before being injured last season, and might have actually been a decent fantasy option if he had stayed healthy.
