The first week of fantasy football is in the books. While it's too early to start making drastic moves, there are still a good number of players available on the waiver wire who are worth targeting in Week 2. We'll look at five running backs that should be on your radar and owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Joique Bell, Detroit Lions (owned in 34 percent of leagues)
Reggie Bush is the undisputed starter at running back, but Bell has proven that he will be a flex asset on his own, getting two touchdowns and 92 total yards against the Vikings. Bush is also dealing with groin and thumb injuries, so Bell could in line for an even bigger role next week. Grab him while you can.
Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills (owned in 45 percent of leagues)
The Bills promised to make C.J. Spiller their workhorse, but that didn't transpire on Sunday. Jackson got 17 touches to Spiller's 22, and responded with 108 total yards. The 32-year-old might have gas left in the tank after all, and is back on the fantasy radar as a handcuff.
Jonathan Dwyer, Pittsburgh Steelers (owned in 10 percent of leagues)
Seller's remorse? The Steelers' running game was so pathetic on Sunday that they re-signed Dwyer less than two weeks after letting him go at final roster cuts. LaRod Stephens-Howling is out with a torn ACL, so Dwyer should get plenty of chances to show that he can produce something, anything, better than what Isaac Redman showed. Dwyer should be Pittsburgh's top handcfuff once Le'Veon Bell comes back from a foot injury.
Da'Rel Scott, New York Giants (owned in 3 percent of leagues)
Fantasy owners shouldn't jump off the David Wilson bandwagon yet, but coach Tom Coughlin is clearly fed up with his mental errors. Look for Scott to get more touches for the time being until Wilson gets out of Coughlin's doghouse. The Giants are working out a handful of veteran free agents this week.
Bernard Pierce, Baltimore Ravens (owned in 48 percent of leagues)
Ray Rice remains Baltimore's bell-cow, but the Ravens are determined to give Pierce the ball. He played in 33 snaps to Rice's 53 in Thursday's loss. Although he struggled against a surprisingly stout Broncos run defense, Pierce remains a borderline flex play in most league formats.
