Thompkins already had plenty of involvement in his debut a week ago, although he was unable to cash-in on his targets with any frequency. His final line of four catches and 42 yards resulted from a team-high 14 targets. Tom Brady may have no choice but to heavily target his rookie receiver once again, even with Thompkins' struggles and inefficiency in his first week.
Dobson had buzz surrounding him early in the offseason, due to his big frame and ability to make acrobatic catches. He is now active for the Patriots on Thursday night after being ruled out of the season opener with a hamstring injury. If there was ever an opportunity to make his presence known in the lineup, it's now.
Fantasy Spin: Dobson isn't likely to see many targets on Thursday, even with the scarcity of weapons for Tom Brady as is. He will still battle the likes of Thompkins, Julian Edelman and Josh Boyce for snaps, and would have to make an impact on minimal opportunities. He's not worth a start in any format.
Thompkins, however, could be in line to build off of a busy but unimpressive debut. There are expected hiccups in the development of an undrafted receiver, and coach Bill Belichick doesn't have the leverage to pull the plug on Thompkins so early. Expect him to have another heavy dose of targets, and fantasy owners can feel comfortable having him in the WR3 or Flex designations.
