Donnie Avery tries to fool fantasy owners with breakout performance

Rich Schultz

Is Donnie Avery really this good? No. We break down the fantasy implications.

Donnie Avery caught seven passes for 141 yards in Week 3 against the Eagles. He led the Chiefs in receiving yardage and finished second in targets with seven.

The Eagles secondary ranks towards the bottom of the league. Avery racked up most of his yardage after a few catches, breaking away from defenders who were nowhere near him at the time of the catch.

Fantasy impact: If Avery played the Eagles every week, he'd probably become a Pro Bowl wideout. Unfortunately he won't be giving this kind of production each week, or possibly ever again in 2013.

Keep up with all of our Fantasy Coverage

Dwayne Bowe is still the No. 1 wideout in the Chiefs offense. Alex Smith is content with checking down, and Avery isn't going to find huge chunks of yardage after every catch. There isn't much upside with Avery.
