Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles put together a strong fantasy football performance in Week 4, accumulating 127 total yards and a receiving touchdown. Charles rushed for 65 yards and hauled in 62 receiving yards in the Chiefs' 31-7 win over the New York Giants.
Charles was unable to get a lot going on the ground, averaging 3.6 yards per carry, but he was a key target for quarterback Alex Smith. The Chiefs QB targeted Charles 11 times. Charles caught five passes, struggling a bit with drops, including one that turned into a Giants interception.
Fantasy impact: Charles was a Top-5 pick thanks to his abilities in both the rushing and passing attack. He has not had a monster rushing game yet, but he has been consistent, and benefited greatly from the Chiefs short passing game. Alex Smith is an ideal quarterback for this kind of game plan, and he and Charles seem to be working well together.
The Chiefs travel to face the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. Charles is a must-start no matter the opponent, and remains a high-caliber RB 1. For his fantasy owners, it is now just a matter of waiting for one of his huge performances. Last season, Charles had seven 100+ rushing yard performances, and two performances with 200+ rushing yards. For now, fantasy owners can be satisfied with his consistency in 2013.
