Jason Pierre-Paul is a game-time decision

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The Giants' leader in sacks in 2012 and 2011 will go through pre-game warmups before his status for the team's season opener is determined. We break down the fantasy implications.

As reported by ProFootballTalk.com, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is a game-time decision and will play on a limited basis if he takes the field Sunday night.

Pierre-Paul is nearly 12 weeks removed from back surgery, a time frame that General Manager Jerry Reese had felt at one point to be enough for his team's premier pass rusher to recover in time to start the season. The plan at the moment is to have Pierre-Paul participate in game warmups and have a decision be made on his status afterward.

Fantasy Spin: It was unclear  for some time if the Giants' leader in sacks over the past two seasons would be ready to take the field on Sunday, and Pierre-Paul's chances to do so look less-likely than not. With a mix of Mathias Kiwanuka and rookie Damontre Moore expected to take his place should he not play, then it bodes well for fantasy starters like Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. When Romo has time to extend plays, good things tend to happen for the Cowboys' offense, and even better things could happen for their fantasy football point totals.

In IDP leagues, Pierre-Paul should remain on the bench.
