David Wilson may be returning to Tom Coughlin's doghouse during the third quarter of Sunday night's game against Dallas. After a pedestrian seven carries for 19 yards into the third quarter, Wilson went to the sideline after his second fumble of the game and has yet to return.
Coughlin opted to start third-year back Da'Rel Scott in place of Wilson. Scott has a career 11 rushing attempts for 25 yards. Scott is currently listed behind Wilson on the depth chart, and has an opportunity to make an argument for more playing time in Wilson's absence.
Fantasy Implications: One fumble in the first week of the regular season is something Coughlin will have to accept as head coach. Two fumbles can be a concern. Coughlin had a pretty low patience with Wilson last season, but he had the luxury of Ahmad Bradshaw for 14 games and Andre Brown putting up several strong performances in 2012. Bradshaw is now in Indianapolis and Andre Brown has a leg fracture that will keep him off the field for part of the season.
It's hard to imagine Da'Rel Scott supplanting Wilson, who was drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2012 draft. However, anything is possible. Fantasy owners of Wilson will want to keep an eye on Scott's output Sunday night and consider him a fantasy handcuff moving forward.
