Adrian Peterson delivers in three-touchdown performance against the Lions

Jeff Gross

AP finished Week 1 with 93 rushing yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Adrian Peterson is apparently ready to maintain his throne at the top of the fantasy running back hierarchy. "All Day" added had 93 rushing yards, and four catches for 18 yards. The Minnesota Vikings reached the end zone three times, and Peterson was responsible for all three touchdowns. The bulk of Peterson's yardage totals came from a 78 yard touchdown on the first play of the game.

Quarterback Christian Ponder was the only other player on the Vikings to accumulate rushing yards (12 yards, 4 carries).

Fantasy Impact: Peterson was the consensus No. 1 pick in the majority of fantasy drafts around the nation. His performance against the Lions simply confirmed that Peterson is one of the most explosive backs in the league. Even though he was contained for the majority of the second half, Peterson proved that teams can rarely game plan against the dynamic back effectively.

Looking ahead to Week 2, Peterson faces a Chicago defense that held the Cincinnati Bengals to 63 rushing yards on Sunday. Regardless, he's a must start in all leagues as long as he's on the field.
