Tom Brady starts the season with a decent fantasy performance

Tom Szczerbowski

Tom Terrific led the Patriots to a win against Buffalo with 288 yards and two touchdowns. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots got off to a disappointing start. While they got the win, Brady disappointed fantasy owners to a certain extent. Brady finished Sunday with 288 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Most of Brady's production came from his connection with receiver Danny Amendola (10 catches, 104 yards). Receiver Julian Edelman was responsible for 79 yards and both of Brady's touchdown passes.

Fantasy Impact: Brady's fantasy output, although serviceable, is a bit disappointing. He was heading into Week 1 as a top fantasy quarterback against a Buffalo defense that gave up the fifth most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2012. He attempted 52 passes and completed 29 of them.

Brady was a bit rattled throughout the afternoon as Buffalo used their pass-rush to their advantage. It also didn't help that Steven Ridley lost playing time with an early fumble, and rookie wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins struggled; managing only four catches with a team high 14 targets from Brady.

There should be no reason for concern as Brady continues to develop chemistry with his refurbished offense. Brady should improve upon his performance in Week 2 against the Jets.
