Matt Ryan got off to a less-than-stellar fantasy football start in the Falcons season opener. While Ryan threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns against a porous Saints defense, he also had an interception and took three sacks for a total of 25 yards. Ryan was 25 of 38 on the day, and while these numbers aren't bad, Ryan was on his way to being considered one of the elite quarterbacks in the game. His performance today wasn't elite by fantasy standards.
Fantasy impact: Ryan is still a good quarterback and you could certainly do worse in fantasy leagues, but for a guy who was on the verge of being considered elite this has to be considered disappointing. The Saints defense isn't great and he should have put up better numbers against this level of defense. The Falcons host the Rams in Week 2. The Rams defense allowed Carson Palmer to throw for 327 yards and two touchdowns, but he did take four sacks as well. The performance of the Falcons' offensive line will be a key to success in how well Ryan and the Falcons offense perform in Week 2. He should still be considered a solid fantasy starter at this point.
