Drew Brees has solid fantasy game in season opener

Drew Brees drops back to throw against the Falcons - John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

Breesus threw for 357 yards and 2 touchdowns in a solid fantasy game in the Saints' season opening win against the Falcons. We bring you the fantasy implications.

Saints' quarterback Drew Brees was solid in his season opener, going 26-of-35 for 357 yards and two touchdowns. While Brees did throw an interception and took two sacks, his fantasy numbers were respectable. Still, Breesus can and should put up better fantasy numbers. The Falcons' defense, while good, features some young players particularly in the secondary. Brees is an elite quarterback who should consistently put up big fantasy numbers and will likely do so in the coming weeks.

Fantasy impact: Brees is an elite quarterback and despite putting up smaller than his average numbers is still a must start in fantasy leagues. While Brees had a solid day, fantasy owners are used to better numbers from the Saints elite quarterback. The Saints travel to Tampa Bay to take on a Buccaneers team that allowed the Jets to put up 18 points, with rookie quarterback Geno Smith throwing for 256 yards and one touchdown. Look for Brees to return to his elite ways in Week 2 against the Buccaneers defense.
