Steven Jackson fails to score in fantasy debut

Falcons running back Steven Jackson carries the ball against the New Orleans Saints - John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

Steven Jackson ran for 77 yards on 11 carries in his Falcons debut but did not reach the end zone. We bring you the fantasy implications.

The Atlanta Falcons' new running back Steven Jackson didn't find the end zone in his debut, but he did rush for 77 yards on 11 carries for a 7.0 yards-per-carry average. Still, fantasy owners didn't get the bang they bargained for as Jackson didn't score in the season opener. The Falcons offensive line is still a work in progress and hopefully Jackson's numbers will get better. This situation will bear watching in the coming weeks.

Fantasy impact: Jackson is still a good running back but fantasy owners expected more against a Saints defense that traditionally hasn't been very good. Jackson got the bulk of the carries but the Falcons only ran the ball 13 times. Jackson's Sunday numbers are typical of a running back that works in a platoon so keep an eye on this situation. Still, he should continue to get the bulk of the carries and should still be considered a good fantasy start, particularly in deeper leagues.
