San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis did not practice on Wednesday and is unlikely to suit up for Week 3. Davis is still on crutches following his ankle injury on Sunday night.
Davis was forced out of the Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears. An MRI revealed no structural damage, but he's not expected to be ready for next week's against the Arizona Cardinals. Davis has seven catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games of the season. With Vance McDonald also questionable to play, Derek Carrier could end up getting the start.
Fantasy impact: Unless he makes a quicker recovery than expected, fantasy owners shouldn't count on having Davis available. Carrier had three catches for 41 yards in Davis' absence, but he's an obvious downgrade talent-wise. You can and should do much better for a TE2 this week. Davis' Week 4 status should be clarified sometime next week.
