Bayern Munich dominated Wolfsburg on their way to a 3-0 victory to remain perfect in the Bundesliga after their first five matches. The visitors rarely threatened Manuel Neuer's goal, and he could've spent the majority of the match in a recliner.
The scoring nearly started immediately. Bayern earned a corner in the third minute, and Franck Ribery took it. The ball bounced around in the box for a second before Bastian Schweinsteiger struck it off the post. Wolfsburg were finally able to clear the danger from their box.
Bayern controlled the match early, and Wolfsburg struggled to create any offense. They finally found the breakthrough in the 24th minute. Xherdan Shaqiri dribbled to the endline and laid the ball back for Schweinsteiger. The central midfielder shot first time between Diego Benaglio's legs to give Bayern the 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the half played out with Bayern absolutely dominating the play, but they couldn't score any other goals to make the dominance count.
The Bavarians finally converted all of their dominance into another goal in the 57th minute. Shaqiri showed why Bayern brought him in this summer with tenacious fight and dribbling outside the Wolfsburg penalty area. He lofted a cross to the far post over the head of Benaglio allowing Mario Mandzukic to head the ball into the net of his former club to give Bayern a 2-0 lead.
Mandzukic grabbed a brace in the 65th minute with another header. Bayern caught Wolfsburg on a break, and Philipp Lahm played in a perfect cross to the Croatian. Mandzukic headed the ball over Benaglio to give Bayern a 3-0, and the club were on their way to their fifth straight victory to open the campaign.
