The final round of the 2011 Players Championship should get underway sometime on Sunday, though we're not sure when, exactly, players will tee-off. Extreme weather on Saturday left many players unable to complete their third round, with the leaders only through a few holes as the horn blew to suspend play due to darkness. It all sets up a marathon Sunday as tournament organizers attempt to complete The Players on time and by sundown.
Play will resume at 7:45 a.m. EDT as the groups still on the course pick up right where they left off on Saturday. The final group had finished hole No. 5 when play was suspended, making for a long day for the top contenders. With the third and fourth rounds still scheduled to be complete and the field closely bunched, it's anyone's game and should make for an exciting Sunday at TPC Sawgrass.
When play was suspended, Graeme McDowell and Nick Watney were tied for the lead at 11-under for the tournament. Both were through five holes of play, with McDowell at 3-under on the day and Watney at 2-under. Steve Stricker and David Toms were two shots back at 10-under and were also through five holes of play. K.J. Choi and Lucas Glover currently sit three shots back at 9-under, though Glover is through just six holes and Choi is through 10.
The full leaderboard can be found at the PGA Tour website. Coverage begins at 2 p.m. EDT on NBC and is scheduled to run until 7 p.m., though it may go much later due to the long day ahead.
