Entering the final hole at TPC Sawgrass, K.J. Choi held the 2011 Players Championship lead at 13-under, with David Toms a stroke behind. Choi achieved a birdie on that monstrous hole No. 17 to force Toms into needing to win the final hole just to force a playoff.
Toms reached the final green in regulation, while Choi had to approach the cup from the thicker stuff. Choi made his way out from afar and wound up three or four feet from the hole, while Toms stared down a 10-foot putt with very little break for the chance to take a share of the lead -- which he drilled.
The heat was then on Choi to convert his short putt to hang onto the tie. He was able to do so, and we have more golf to enjoy this evening. The players will head back to hole No. 17.
