2011 AT&T National Results: Nick Watney Survives Late K.J. Choi Surge For 2nd Tour Victory In 2011

Nick Watney held off a late challenge by K.J. Choi on Sunday to win the 2011 AT&T National, his second victory of the year. Starting the day at 9-under, Watney shot a 4-under in Round 4 to finish at 13-under, two strokes better than K.J. Choi. Watney's 8-under round on Saturday propelled him to the top of the leaderboard and the chance for a tournament victory at Aronimink Golf Club.

Choi had taken a share of the lead by making birdie on the par-3 14th hole, but a double bogey on the next hole set him back to 10-under. Choi had hit into a bunker and missed the green when getting out of it. Watney birdied the 16th hole, which Choi did as well to stay just two strokes behind. But both would par the final two holes. Watney and Choi are projected to be Nos. 1 and 2 in the next FedEx Cup standings update.

The best score of the round belonged to Chris DiMarco at 6-under, finishing at 5-under. Robert Allenby also fired off a low round with a 5-under, taking 6th place with Chris Stroud at 8-under.

The top 10 results (full leaderboard here):

1. Nick Watney -13
2. K.J. Choi -11
T3. Charles Howell III -9
T3. Jeff Overton -9
T3. Adam Scott -9
T6. Robert Allenby -8
T6. Chris Stroud -8
T8. Bryce Molder -7
T8. Chris kirk -7
T8. Webb Simpson -7

2011 AT&T National Leaderboard: Nick Watney Steady As Rickie Fowler Crumbles

Nick Watney has maintained his hold atop the 2011 AT&T National leaderboard, going 3-under through 11 holes to reach 12-under. He's being challenged by K.J. Choi, who's a stroke back with six holes remaining, and Jeff Overton, who's gone 4-under on the day to reach 10-under.

Not present in the short list of contenders: Rickie Fowler. After an outstanding Saturday, Fowler has fallen from first to a tie for ninth place, starting his day with a double bogey on hole No. 2. Fowler's quest for his first career PGA Tour victory will have to continue next time around.

Tied for fourth at 8-under are Robert Allenby and Charles Howell III, with the former finished for the afternoon and the latter looking to improve over his final three holes.

AT&T National Leaderboard: Rickie Fowler, Nick Watney Deadlocked Heading Into Final Round

Nick Watney came out firing on Saturday in the third round of the 2011 AT&T National, carding a 62 to move into a tie for first-place heading into Sunday's final round. Watney's 62 included eight birdies, an eagle, two bogeys and a blistering back nine. After making the turn at even-par on the day, Watney came back in 27 with birdies on the 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th, as well as an eagle on the 16th.

Rickie Fowler had quite the day himself, carding a 64 to share first-place with Watney. Good scores were out there in the third round of the AT&T National, and Fowler capitalized on the conditions, putting himself in prime position heading into the final 18 holes. He and Watney will be paired together in the final group on Sunday, and both sit one-shot clear of the field.

K.J. Choi is alone in third after a ho-hum day in which he finished with a 1-under 69 on the card, failing to go low on a day many others did. Three players -- Steve Marino, Webb Simpson and Adam Scott -- are in a tie for third, two shots off the pace at 7-under. Scott is using Tiger Woods' caddy, Steve Williams, at Woods' own tournament.

AT&T National 2011 Leaderboard: Nick Watney Moves Into First Place Tie

It seemed as though Chris Kirk was going to be the Day 3 story at the AT&T National early Saturday afternoon, but that didn't stand for long. While Kirk is still in the top 10, due to the impressive back-nine from Nick Watney.

Watney converted an eagle attempt on Hole 16, a 558-yard Par 5 challenge that took him just three strokes to complete to give him a score of 27 on the back-nine and tournament-best 62 on the day. Six of Watney's eight birdie attempts came within the last nine holes, not counting the eagle.

Watney is now tied for first with Rickie Fowler at nine-under through the first three days of the AT&T National. Fowler shot six-under through the first 13 holes, leaving him clinging to his first place standing.

Behind Fowler and Watney, there's a three-way tie for third that includes Steve Marino, Webb Simpson and Charlie Wi with the majority of golfers already in the clubhouse.

AT&T National 2011 Leaderboard: Chris Kirk Surges In Third Round Play

The AT&T National at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa., does not a new leader quite yet. Chris Kirk's performance on Saturday, however, definitely did not hurt his quest to move to the top of the tournament leaderboard.

Kirk, a University of Georgia alumnus playing in his first full year on the PGA circuit, registered a tournament-low 63-stroke Day 3 performance while shooting seven strokes under par.

After struggling by shooting a 70 and 71 respectively during the first two rounds of the tournament, Kirk now finds himself sitting in a tie for third in the standings with over half the field already in the clubhouse.

The two golfers currently ahead of Kirk are Rickie Fowler and Steve Marino. Fowler, through the front nine, currently sits at eight-under while Marino is on pace to tie Kirk's 63 today to go seven-under at the AT&T National heading into Sunday's final round.

On the other end of the spectrum, Paul Goydos really struggled on Saturday, finishing with four bogeys and two double bogeys to turn in a nine-over 79 on his Day 3 scorecard.

2011 AT&T National, Leaderboard Update: KJ Choi Leads After Two Rounds

South Korean KJ Choi leads the AT&T National after two rounds and about half the golfers still on the course. Choi's second round score of 64 (-6) has so far been the best score of the day and allowed him to move up 16 spots after shooting 69 in the first round. Chris Riley, who shot a 66 on the day, was sitting in second place at -5 for the tournament.

The player who seems to be in the best position to catch or even overtake Choi is countryman Charlie Wi. Through 10 holes he is at -4 for the day and -5 for the tournament.

Choi began to make his charge on the 446-yard, par 4 No. 4 hole where his birdie kickstarted a run of five birdies in his his next six holes. He only had one bogey in the round, giving one back on the par 4 No. 11 hole. But he was able to get back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16.

Co-first round leaders Hunter Haas and Adam Scott both fell back with over par performances. Scott now sits in eighth after shooting a 71 and Haas went all the way back to 30th after a 74 that included a double-bogey on No. 10.

AT&T National 2011 Tee Times, TV Schedule: Day 2 Pairings Highlighted By Adam Scott, Justin Rose

The second round of the 2011 AT&T National gets underway Friday morning at 7:20 a.m. ET at Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, PA. After a closely fought first day of action, Australian Adam Scott and American Hunter Haas are tied for the tournament lead at 4-under, 66.

TV coverage of the tournament begins Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on the Golf Channel. A complete listing of tee times can be found here.

Some pairings to keep an eye on throughout the second day of the tournament:

8:15 a.m. ET: K.J. Choi, Justin Rose, Adam Scott - The 2007 champion, the defending champion, and the current leader; what else could you ask for? Scott may be in front with his 4-under right now, but both Choi (1-under) and Rose (even) are well within striking distance. Look for some exciting action from this pairing.

8:37 a.m. ET: Chris DiMarco, Scott McCarron, Hunter Haas - It'll be interesting to see how Haas handles the pressure of the lead. Until his back nine birdie blitzkrieg, the American was playing a relatively unspectacular round of golf. Will he be able to repeat his performance?

12:00 p.m. ET: Dean Wilson, Ricky Barnes, Blake Adams - This later pairing features two Americans who could easily end day two at the top of the leaderboard. After bogeying his first hole, Wilson righted the ship and played a superb round of golf, topping it off with an eagle on the par-5 16th. Barnes followed suit, matching Wilson's eagle to recover from his double-bogey at the par-4 10th.

AT&T National Leaderboard: Adam Scott, Hunter Haas Tied For Lead After Day One

The opening round of the 2011 AT&T National is in the books and Australian Adam Scott sits tied at the top of the leaderboard after shooting a 4-under 66. The Masters-runner up began the day on a blistering pace, nailing birdies on three of his first six holes, before cooling down on the back nine.

Unheralded American Hunter Haas shares the lead with Scott at 4-under. The 34-year old was having a rather unremarkable first round until a spectacular stretch in which he birdied four holes in a row from the 13th to the 16th.

Currently four players -- Dean Wilson, Joe Ogilvie, Jhonattan Vegas, and Kyle Stanley -- are tied for third, having finished play at 3-under par.

Last year's winner, Justin Rose, struggled for most of the day, ending his round at even par. Rose could never quite find his rhythm and juggled between birdies and bogeys throughout the afternoon.

Vijay Singh, one of rare big-names in this year's tournament, finished tied for seventh with a 2-under 68. Though, he played an extremely inconsistent round, erratically leaping from birdies and bogeys all morning.

Second round play begins Friday morning at 7:20 am. A complete listing of tee-times can be found here.

AT&T National Leaderboard: Four-Way Tie For Clubhouse Lead In First Round

The 2011 AT&T National doesn't have Tiger Woods in the field, leaving it the slightest bit more open than expected. And a host of golfers are taking advantage of that in the first round at Aronimink Golf Club.

Four golfers — Dean Wilson, Joe Oglevie, Jhonattan Vegas, and Kyle Stanley — are all tied for the clubhouse lead at 3-under after finishing first round 67s. Three more golfers, Adam Scott, Kris Blanks, and Hunter Haas are tied for the lead at 3-under with holes left to play. Of those players, only Vegas, who won the Bob Hope Classic in January, has a PGA Tour victory this season.

All three of the leaders still on the course have yet to make a bogey; of the ones with completed rounds, only Scott's 67 was bogey-free.

Few household names are in the AT&T National field, but amateur Patrick Cantlay, who made a run at last week's Travelers Championship, finished his first round at even par, and Vijay Singh is 2-under through seven holes.

You can find a full scoreboard for the AT&T National at the PGA Tour's website. For more on the 2011 AT&T National, stay with this StoryStream or visit Waggle Room.

AT&T National 2011: Tiger Woods Out, But Justin Rose Aims To Repeat

Tiger Woods had hoped to make his comeback in time to compete in this week's AT&T National that he hosts, but it now looks like he might not even be ready for the British Open on July 14. At a news conference for his tournament, Woods indicated there is still no timetable for his return from his injured knee and Achilles', which has kept him off of various golf courses since he only got through nine holes of the Players Championship back in May.

"I'm just going to learn my lesson from what I did at The Players," said Woods, who is at least out of his walking boot and off crutches. "I tried to push it too hard and hurt myself and that's the reason I'm going to be different this time."

With Woods out, the AT&T National field is as open as ever. Justin Rose is the defending champion after shooting 10-under par at Aronimink Golf Course in 2010. This year Rose has made $1.3 million, has eight top-25 finishes and is 37th in the FedexCup standings. He'll tee off at 12:55 p.m. on Thursday.

Nick Watney is probably the field's top player right now, sitting fifth in the FedExCup standings and 15th in the World Golf Rankings. He also finished seventh in last year's tournament. Watney tees off at 8:15 a.m.
