Darren Clarke won the British Open on Sunday, but really, that was just prelude to Sunday night. And then Monday morning. "I have not been to bed yet," Clarke told reporters this morning. "I probably won't get any sleep until tomorrow at some stage. You have to enjoy it while you can. It's been a very good night."
See, this is why it's fun when the Irish win.
As USA Today reports of Clarke's celebration:
The party began shortly after he walked off the 18th green at Royal St. George's with the claret jug in hand. Beer and red wine flowed through the night, the revelry not letting up until Clarke returned Monday morning for a few more interviews...
Now that golfers from Northern Ireland have claimed three of the past six majors, including two straight, Rory McIlroy doesn't sound quite so crazy calling his country "the golf capital of the world!" And maybe Phil Mickelson feels differently, but I couldn't be happier about this.
If golf's going to get taken over by this Northern Irish mafia, then golf just got a lot more fun.
Here's to enjoying it while you can, Northern Ireland. GUINNESS FOR EVERYONE.
