The NFL is demanding the attention of most at the moment, but I feel bad for you if you're not casually keeping an eye on the 2011 Tour Championship at the same time. Bill Haas and Hunter Mahan are involved in an epic playoff, and are now headed to the third hole of sudden death after tying the first two.
It seemed as if both were well aware that they were playing for eight figures on the first hole, as both missed their tee shots badly to the right on the Par 3 18th. Incredibly, both hit great second shots and great par putts, making three to force a second hole.
And that's where the madness went down. Mahan hit the green on his approach on the Par 4 17th, while Haas hit his approach into the water hazard. Incredibly, the ball didn't go completely underwater and was playable. Up a steep slope, Haas hit a pitch shot out of a freaking lake to within three feet of the hole. Both Haas and Mahan made par, forcing a third playoff hole. They return to the 18th.
