UNLV golfer Ryan Moore led the charge at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas at the 2012 Justin Timberlake Shriners Open.

UNLV alum Ryan Moore leads the field near the end of the first round of play at the 2012 Justin Timberlake Shriners Open in Las Vegas.

Moore, who lives in Las Vegas, sits at 10-under through the first 18 holes at TPC Summerlin. He started off the day on the back nine, and used five birdies and an eagle to jump into the lead.

The surprise of the day could be in the second-place slot, where No. 313 golfer in the world Tim Herron sits at 8-under par after the first round. The 128th-ranked player in this season's FedEx Cup rankings, Herron sits alone in second.

Americans Chris Kirk and John Huh along with Brendon de Jonge of Zimbabwe are tied for third place at 7-under par. Kirk and Huh are through 17 holes. De Jonge has only played through 14 holes.

Nick Watney, the winner of The Barclays in 2012, is five shots off the lead and has finished. Robert Garrigus, the No. 41 player in the world, is at 4-under and tied in 11th place with one hole to play.
