2012 WGC-HSBC Champions purse: Ian Poulter takes $1.2 million winner's paycheck

Ian Poulter finished with a 21-under to win the WCG-HSBC Champions purse in China.

Ian Poulter of Great Britain finished the 2012 WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in China Sunday with a 21-under 267 to take home a $1.2 million winner's purse.

Poulter finished ahead of Phil Mickelson, Jason Dufner, Scott Piercy and Ernie Els, who all finished in a tie for second at 19-under 269. Poulter surged ahead in the final round after birdying four holes on the front nine and then two more on the back nine.

Poulter entered the final round down by four strokes, but he shot a 7-under 65 in the final round to come from behind and win. Lee Westwood and Louis Oosthuizen were the co-leaders entering the final round, but both shot 72s to fall behind. They finished tied for sixth place overall at 18-under 270.

Adam Scott (17-under 271) finished in eight place, Martin Kaymer shot a 16-under 272 and finished in ninth place, and Bill Haas rounded out the top 10, shooting a 15-under 273. See the entire final leaderboard here.
