Bunker Rake: Fathers, don't let your babies grow up to be a McIlroy

Sam Greenwood

Nothing says "golf excitement!" like the wintery month of December. Here's a quick round-up of the action you may have missed over the weekend.

December golf action was at a boiling point this past weekend as the Father-Son Challenge was captured by the Love Family, Rory and Nike totally got busted and Tiger Woods is in denial. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

- Davis Love III and son win Father-Son Challenge - Great news! Even after Davis Love III retires or decides to play the rest of his career on the Champions Tour (which are basically the same), there's a strong chance the PGA Tour will still have another Love to call our own. His son Dru put on quite the show this weekend at the Father-Son, especially with his RED hot putter en route to a handful of birdies to keep the duo in RED numbers.

"I definitely learned a lot this week," said the younger Love, who was RED with excitement. "I know this isn't quite as big a tournament as the PGA, but you see the way that it's supposed to be done." You got that right, junior.

- Oooooooh! Rory's got some 'splanin' to do! - So Rory McIlroy and Nike are getting sued by apparel manufacturer Oakley for breach of contract. Apparently Rory jumped ship a little too early to Nike, who really operate by their own rules in whatever form of 'reality' they live. There's also a bunch of legal tomfoolery and crazy money-talk involved, but I'm no lawyer and you're no math expert. So let's be honest folks; we all know how this is gonna end: Rory and Charles Oakley will star in their own commercial for Nike. It just makes sense. Hopefully there will be fireworks.

- Tiger Woods isn't sure about anything - Speaking of Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods thinks he's the bee's knees according to a statement released on his personal website earlier today. However, while Woods congratulated McIlroy on having a stellar year, he wasn't quite ready to christen their professional bromance a 'rivalry' just yet.

"Rory McIlroy had a wonderful year, and my hat is off to him," Woods wrote. "He deserved Player of the Year. Whether we develop a rivalry remains to be seen. Let's just let it play out and see where it takes us. We'll look at the results the next five or 10 years and see if it becomes a rivalry or not."

Awwwww. Look how cute Tiger is! He's trying to remain humble toward Rory while also inadvertently saying "I'm still better."
