Kyle Stanley won the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open, just one week after blowing a huge lead on the final hole and losing at Torrey Pines.
Spencer Levin held a six shot lead over Webb Simpson, and seven shots over Bubba Watson heading into Day 4 of the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open. He appeared to be on his way to a runaway victory, but a charge by Kyle Stanley is threatening to make things interesting. Through 12 holes on Sunday, Stanley has shot 4-under to pull within two shots of Levin, who is at 2-over through eleven.
Things started off well for Levin. He made par on his first two holes before making birdie on the third. He bogeyed three times over the next nine holes, giving the rest of the field new life. Stanley has made birdie four times on the day.
Ben Crane and John Huh have moved to one shot back from Stanley in their own late bid to win the tournament. Simpson is even on the day, and sits in a three-way tie for fifth place at four shots off the lead. Watson is seemingly out of the picture at 1-over for the tournament and six shots off of Levin.

Spencer Levin appears to be on the way to a runaway victory at the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open. At 17-under, he leads Webb Simpson by six strokes and Bubba Watson by seven heading into Sunday's final round.
Levin fired an 8-under 63 in his second round on Friday to open up his massive lead, and a 68 on Saturday to keep a lot of space between himself and the rest of the field.
Here are some of the most important tee times and pairings for Sunday's final round. All times are Eastern, and you can catch TV coverage of the 2012 Waste Management Open on The Golf Channel from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on CBS from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., or watch the event via the PGA Tour's free live online stream.

After the second round of the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open, Spencer Levin was in position to run away with the tournament. After the third round of the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open, Spencer Levin is still in position to run away with the tournament.
Levin fired a 3-under 68 in the desert on Saturday, moving to 17-under for the tournament and maintaining a six-shot lead over Webb Simpson. Levin made four birdies and his second bogey of the tournament in the third round, but few golfers were able to make up ground on him, with just three of the other 17 golfers who finished within 10 shots of the lead after the third round shooting better than 68 on the day.
Levin is looking for his first career PGA Tour victory. He lost to Johnson Wagner in a playoff at the 2011 Mayakoba Golf Classic.

The third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open is underway, and it's "go green" day at TPC Scottsdale. Fans and players were encouraged to wear green as a show of support for the environmental initiatives the title sponsor promotes. All of Saturday's early morning tee times will need to go low, as they look to make up ground on second round run-away leader Spencer Levin. The California native had a breakout year in 2011 and carried a 6-shot lead over Harrison Frazier into the weekend as he looks for his first PGA Tour victory. He will need to fall apart over the weekend and come back to the field, or someone will have to duplicate his 63 to make this interesting on Sunday.
Rickie Fowler is another young dynamic star looking for his first tour win. He's trying to make a charge at Levin, and was two under through the first four holes. But Fowler went bogey-bogey at five and six to fall back to even. He's still 10 shots back so he will have to set a blistering pace over the final two-thirds of his round to get into contention on Sunday.
Fowler played alongside local favorite Phil Mickelson in the tournament's power group for the first two rounds. Mickelson won this event 15 years ago, but has failed to win in front of the friendly Arizona State crowd since. He's two under through his first five holes, and eight shots back of Levin. Americans Martin Flores and John Rollins are five under on their front nine and the only other mid-morning players making a run at Levin's number.

Saturday was "Green Out" day at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, which basically means fans and golfers are wearing green to remind everyone just how environmentally friendly Waste Management, everyone's favorite landfill operator, really is. (It's not all marketing schtick: the Thunderbirds, the civic organization that hosts the Phoenix Open, is donating money for every fan wearing green to the non-profit Arizona Clean & Beautiful.)
In any case, golfer Bubba Watson (no relation, sadly) joined the fun, tweeting pictures of his green outfit today ... complete with a mistletoe belt buckle, because why not. Check it out after the jump.
The 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open heads into Day 3 with Spencer Levin atop the leaderboard, at 14-under. In second place with a cumulative 11-under is Harrison Frazar, followed by John Huh and Webb Simpson, both tied for third place at 8-under. With 7-under is Kyle Stanley to round out the top five competitors thus far.
The Phoenix Open will be televised nationally on CBS on Saturday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. ET/ 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. PT

Spencer Levin finished at 8-under on Day 2 of the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open to take a 6-shot lead over his next closest competitor. He birdied six holes before recording an eagle on a par 4 hole 17 to solidify himself as the tournament's leader. John Huh and Webb Simpson are in second place at 8-under for the tournament, shooting 5-under and 2-under Friday, respectively. Simpson has only shot through four holes, however.
Ryan Palmer came as the leader on the day, but shot 1-over to fall back into a six-way tie for fifth place at 6-under. He was inconsistent all day, recording four birdies and five bogeys through 18 holes. Bubba Watson sat two shots off the lead heading into the day, but also finds himself in the muddle of players tied for fifth along with Ben Crane, Bo Van Pelt, Jason Dufner and Harrison Frazar.
Phil Mickelson is at 1-over through five, putting him 12 shots back from the lead. Dustin Johnson is faring a little better at 1-under through five and 4-under for the tournament. Both are doing much better than Stewart Cink, who is currently sitting 27 shots off the lead. You can check out the full leaderboard here.

Round 1 of the Phoenix Open didn't quite get completed on time, with play suspended due to darkness, but the majority of players got through their rounds. The first round will resume on Friday morning, early enough for the second round to tee off on time. Ryan Palmer leads the field at seven-under par, with some big names close behind him.
Bubba Watson sits at five-under par through 15 holes and will complete his round early in the morning. Phil Mickelson finished his round at three-under, and Dustin Johnson also sits at three-under after having completed all 18 holes. Some players have as many as six holes left to play on Friday before they complete their rounds.
Some big names had less luck than Watson, Mickelson and Johnson on the first day. Stewart Cink shot 12-over, while Y.E. Yang also struggled a bit and came in at two-over par. Check out the full leaderboard here.

The PGA Tour may sometimes seem stodgy and uptight to casual fans, but the Waste Management Phoenix Open is the exception to the rule. It's perennially the best attended tournament of the year, with hundreds of thousands of fans, including a lot of Arizona State college students, turning Scottsdale's Tournament Players Club into one giant party.
The scene at the 16th hole, a short par-3 that's fully enclosed by stadium seating, is something you'd expect to see at the infield of the Kentucky Derby, not a golf course. Fans who show up early enough to get a seat usually stay all day with a beverage in hand, cheering the good shots and booing the bad, all the while wagering on which caddie will touch the green first. (No, really, it's a thing. And it's become so popular that the tournament's official iPhone app let's you make virtual wagers on the caddies.)
Jarrod Lyle rewarded the fans with a hole-in-one at least year's event, but the most memorable ace belongs to Tiger Woods in 1997 when the event was still called the FBR Open. Watch the first 30 seconds of this video:
Yes, Tiger Woods made it rain beer. But a word to the wise for those who imbibe: don't pass out drunk by a lake, or this may happen to you ...
Despite the debauchery in the gallery, there is actual golf being played. Mark Wilson won last year's event after two playoff holes with Jason Dufner. Wilson, who's already won the Humana Challenge earlier this month, is back to defend his title, and he'll be joined by eight other former winners -- including Phil Mickelson (1996, 2005), Kenny Perry (2009) and Vijah Singh (1995, 2003) -- who have taken home a combined 13 Phoenix Open titles.
Other notable names in the field of 132 include Johnson Wagner, who won the Sony Open, and Brandt Snedeker, fresh off winning last week's Farmers Insurance Open. The world's sixth-ranked Webb Simpson and ninth-ranked Dustin Johnson will be competing, as will Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas, Martin Laird and Kyle Stanley, who's hoping the erase the memory of last week's choke job.
A $6.1 million purse is at stake, with $1,098,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points going to the winner. Play starts on Thursday, and the Golf Channel will broadcast coverage from 4 p.m. (ET) to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, with CBS picking up coverage on Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Waste Management Phoenix Open 2012 Results: Kyle Stanley Earns Sweet Redemption
The roles were reversed for Kyle Stanley this week and that was probably for the best. Just one week ago, Stanley blew a three-shot lead on the 72nd hole, carding an eight to drop into a tie for first. He entered into a playoff with Brandt Snedeker, then proceeded to lose a tournament he held a firm grasp on all week.
This time around, it was Stanley reeling in the man in first after three rounds. Heading into the final 18 holes, Spencer Levin held a six-shot lead over the field at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but suffered a fate somewhat similar to Stanley.
As Stanley motored along, finishing at 6-under for the day, Levin faded fast, limping to the finish line at 4-over for the day. Stanley's final round was good for a one-shot win -- a bit of sweet, almost immediate redemption -- while Levin had to settle for a third-place finish. In between the two was Ben Crane, who carded a 5-under 66 in the final round to finish at 14-under for the tournament, one shot off the pace.
The reversal of fortune for Stanley was striking. A week after a back-nine collapse and 18th hole 8, Stanley did not card a bogey in the final round, finishing with six birdies and a clean card. It's always more fun when the guy who falls apart one week bounces right back and engineers a big comeback the next to win.
