Northern Trust Open 2012: Phil Mickelson Salvages Good Round, Maintains Lead At 6-Under

Stay connected with SB Nation

Phil Mickelson took the good with the bad Friday in the second round of the 2012 Northern Trust Open, and he remains the tournament's leader heading into the weekend.

Mickelson chipped in for one of his two birdies and holed a wedge from 110 yards out for an eagle on his 17th hole. However, he also missed 10 greens and snagged three bogeys. His final score on the day was 70, which, coupled with Thursday's 66, keeps him atop the leaderboard with an overall 6-under.

Just behind Mickelson is Pat Perez, who rocketed up the leaderboard after shooting a 65 on Friday. Not bad, considering he shot one-over on Thursday.

Five golfers sit behind Mickelson and Perez at 4-under. Other notables include Matt Kuchar (4-under), Keegan Bradley (2-under), K.J. Choi (2-under), Bill Haas (1-under), Luke Donald (E), defending champion Aaron Baddeley (E) and Vijay Singh (2-over).

The projected cut is 3-over, which means Justin Leonard, Chris DiMarco, Martin Laird and Jhonattan Vegas would rank among those out.
