A Plan To Save The Daytona 500

Stay connected with SB Nation

We're still in a rain delay, waiting for the start of the Daytona 500. The rough weather moved in on Sunday morning and has now pushed the race back nearly three hours. There are positive signs, though: the rain has let up, officials are drying the track and progress towards getting the race started is being made.

But just in case the weather turns again, we have a plan. I think this will work, you guys.

OK, so we need about a million of these umbrellas. Stay with me for a moment, even if it sounds a bit odd. You see, these little suckers fly, so if we could set a large amount of them free over the racing surface, Daytona would be protected.

Why didn't anyone think of this before?

This was actually a missing Mary Poppins incident at a golf event on Sunday. By the way, the on-course announcer in the lower-right hand corner of the GIF is a total pro.
