Dubai Desert Classic 2012 Preview: Three Of World's Best Playing In UAE

Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood are among the stars playing in the Dubai Desert Classic.

While many of the world's top professionals are enjoying a week of having fun with celebrities in Pebble Beach, a few of them have decided to be a little more serious and play a few rounds of golf without involving Bill Murray. The European Tour's Dubai Desert Classic tees off on Feb. 9, and some of the world's best golfers will be participating.

As is customary for large sporting events in the United Arab Emirates, a lot of the top players who showed up will likely receive more than their tournament winnings for showing up. Among the biggest names playing in the tournament are Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer -- the second, third and fourth ranked golfers in the world.

Also participating are the Molinari brothers, along with veterans Colin Montgomerie, John Daly and Fred Couples. The defending champion is big-hitting Spaniard Alvaro Quiros, who is in Dubai to defend his title.
