If you were hoping to tee it up for a good cause with the disgraced former coach of the University of Arkansas football team, you have Bobby Petrino’s indiscretions to blame for your disappointment.
The Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation said Tuesday it would cancel the annual Bobby Petrino Charity Golf Classic originally scheduled to kick off in two months.
“After consulting with the Petrino family, we are sad to report that Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation has no choice but to cancel the June 18, 2012, golf tournament intended to benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital,” the hospital said in a statement, according to published reports. “Coach Petrino apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Foundation sincerely thank the Petrino family for their personal support.”
University athletic director Jeff Long fired Petrino on April 10, for a variety of wrongs, including lying about an extramarital affair and hiring his mistress, all of which came out after Petrino’s April 1 motorcycle accident.
The four-person scramble -- which as of mid-morning Tuesday was still listed on the hospital’s events calendar -- was to take place at the Country Club of Little Rock.
