Cameron Tringale Shaping Up To Be Top Player

Cameron Tringale is tied for the lead after the opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The 24-year-old is shaping into quite the talent on tour.

The opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is just about in the books and Cameron Tringale finds himself tied for the lead in a second straight PGA Tour event.

Tringale -- or, as I like to call him, "The Triangle" -- is certainly shaping up to be a top player so far this season on the PGA Tour, having played well in his last two tournaments. Though he is currently ranked 41st in the FedEx Cup standings, Tringale remains somewhat of an unknown on tour for most fans, as he's been since making his tour debut at the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii.

In 2010, Tringale started 21 events and made just a hair over $300,000, placing him in the bottom 175 on the tour money list and costing him his tour card. In December 2011, however, he would regain his card by finishing fourth at Q-school.

The Triangle's opening round on Thursday in New Orleans was highlighted by four consecutive birdies on holes 15 through 18, en route to recording a 7-under 65. He currently sits tied for the lead with Ken Duke.

The 24 year-old Tringale made a bit of a stir during last week's Valero Texas Open, especially after firing a second-round 65 to reach the top-5 at that point in the tournament. He would eventually fall back during his Saturday round, though, recording a less-than-pleasing 76.
