There will be nervous moments on Friday as the second round of the 2012 Masters draws to a close. Friday is cut day, with a good chunk of the field lopped off, sent home after just two days at Augusta National. The cut rules are simple at The Masters: The top-40 on the leaderboard, plus anyone within 10-strokes of the lead gets to stay; everyone else is sent packing.
Thanks to Lee Westwoods double-bogey on No. 18 to close his round, the projected cut line is now at 5-over. This can change, of course, depending on the movement at the top of the leaderboard. The rule to pay attention here is the 10-shot rule, as the top-40 won't matter much without someone running away with the tournament -- and that's not happening.
As of now, Tom Watson, Darren Clark, Angel Cabrera, amateur Patrick Cantlay and others are right on the cut line at 5-over for the tournament. Steve Stricker is on the wrong side currently, at 6-over for the tournament with some work left to do on Friday. If one of the leaders pushes the low number to 6- or 7-under, though, it could throw quite a few players into uncertainty as the cut line moves.
