Peter Hanson heads into the final round of the 2012 Masters with the lead, but he isn't nearly the story that last round's leader after 54 holes, Rory McIlroy, was. And he won't be the dominant story on Sunday, thanks to Phil Mickelson lurking one shot behind him. But Hanson's looking for his first major championship, and if he claims his first green jacket, it will be a rather stupendous upset.
That's because Hanson doesn't quite have a sterling track record at majors. In 18 appearances, he's got just one career top-10 finish, a tie for seventh at the 2011 U.S. Open, and this is his second appearance and first time making the cut at The Masters.
That guy, the golfer having a mid-career emergence and making the most of a hot week of play at Augusta? He makes for a good storyline. And sometimes, The Masters is about stories like Hanson's, too.
